How wide is a car?
These are plain averages of the 44 best sellers in our vehicle table, one row per model. They aren't weighted by how many of each got sold.
Short answer
A sedan is about 71.9 in wide, call it 6 ft. A crossover is about 76.8 in and a full-size pickup about 80.6 in. That's the body. Mirrors add another 7 to 26 in.
Average car length, width and height
| Type | Models | Length | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cars | 5 | 188.5 in (15 ft 9 in) | 71.9 in (6 ft) | 56.6 in (4 ft 9 in) |
| SUVs and crossovers | 29 | 193.9 in (16 ft 2 in) | 76.8 in (6 ft 5 in) | 70.4 in (5 ft 10 in) |

| Pickups | 9 | 229.6 in (19 ft 2 in) | 80.6 in (6 ft 9 in) | 77.9 in (6 ft 6 in) |
The minivan row is one vehicle, the Sienna, so it's not really an average.

How wide is a car with mirrors?
Most makers only publish the body width. The few that list the width with mirrors out show the mirrors adding a good chunk The pickups gain the most.
| Vehicle | Body | With mirrors | Mirrors add |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ford F-150 width | 79.9 in | 95.7 in | 15.8 in |
| Ford Super Duty F-250 width | 80 in | 105.9 in | 25.9 in |
| Ford Bronco width | 79.4 in | 86.6 in | 7.2 in |
| Ford Expedition MAX width | 80 in | 94.6 in | 14.6 in |
| Rivian R1S width | 81.8 in | 88.4 in | 6.6 in |
| Rivian R2 width | 78.1 in | 84.7 in | 6.6 in |

| Mazda CX-5 width | 73.2 in | 81.8 in | 8.6 in |
For the garage, fold the mirrors and use the body width. A standard 8 ft single door is 96 in, so even a full-size pickup clears it with mirrors folded. With them out, you're threading it.
Average car length and the garage
A sedan at 15 ft 9 in leaves plenty in a 20 ft deep garage. A crew cab pickup at 19 ft 2 in on average is a different story, and the long-bed ones don't fit in 20 ft at all. Put your own numbers into the garage fit calculator, or start from one of these:

- Will a 2026 Toyota RAV4 fit?
- Will a 2026 Toyota Sienna fit?
- Will a 2027 Toyota Camry fit?
