Two-car garage workshop layouts

Machines at the sizes in their manuals, a 24 × 24 ft garage, 36 in to walk. Your machines and garage will differ, so measure them.

Short answer

A table saw with its rails is 66 × 40 in, and Grizzly's manual wants 30 in clear round it. That fits in one bay of a 24 × 24 ft garage with a car in the other. With both cars parked there's room for a bandsaw, drill press and dust collector on the back wall, but not a table saw.

A shop in one bay, a car in the other

  • Table saw
  • Tools and storage
  • Car, mirrors out
  • 30 in round the saw
  • 36 in to walk
  • Garage doors

The left bay is the shop and the right bay keeps the car, with 36 in to walk on both sides of it. The saw sits on a mobile base, so it can roll toward the open door for a long rip.

In front of the blade: 108 in to the door line. Behind it: 110 in. An 8 ft board needs 96 in each way to rip its full length.

The whole garage as a shop

  • Garage doors

The saw sits in the middle with 30 in clear round it and 8 ft in front of and behind the blade, so a full sheet or an 8 ft board rips with the door shut.

In front of the blade: 120 in to the door line. Behind it: 104 in. An 8 ft board needs 96 in each way to rip its full length.

With both cars in, the back wall holds the bandsaw, drill press, dust collector and storage, with 36 in to walk in front of the bumpers. A table saw doesn’t fit: it needs 30 in clear round it.

In front of the bumpers there's 61 in behind the Model Y and 65 in behind the CX-5 after 36 in to walk, enough for the 30 in deep bandsaw.

The saw rolls on a BORA PM-1000, which adjusts up to 32 × 32 in, enough for the saw's 19½ × 20½ in cabinet, and adds less than 1 in of height. Grizzly's manual says to stand to the side of the blade path and to put an outfeed table behind the saw, but it gives no length for either. SawStop's site wouldn't let us read it, so there's no SawStop here.

Plan the rest

Size the wire for the saw and the dust collector with the wire size calculator, set the bench with the workbench height calculator, or keep the car and add storage with the garage storage layouts.
