Barbell and plate sizes

From the IWF and IPF rulebooks and Rogue’s product pages. Checked November 1, 2026.

Short answer

A men’s Olympic bar is 20 kg (44 lb) and 220 cm (86.6 in) long, with a 28 mm grip and 50 mm sleeves. A women’s bar is 15 kg and 201 cm. Full-size bumper plates are 450 mm (17.7 in) across, so every plate 10 kg and up sits the bar at the same height.

A 7 ft 3 in bar needs that much clear width to load it, plus room for your hands at the ends.

Rogue HG 2.0 bumpers, all 450 mm across. The last column ignores the collar, so leave room for one. Five 45s a side is about 495 lb on the bar with 20 kg of bar.

Competition rules

The IWF sets discs of 10 kg and up at 45 cm across. The IPF caps the bar at 2.2 m overall and plates of 20 kg and up at 6 cm thick.
